Fallen
Fallen, like empire
hopes for a new beginning
reclaimed by the soil
reaching out for the sky
a frozen gesture of defeat
once graceful and strong
now abandoned and alone
to be seduced by the fog of history

The Peace of Wild Things
When despair for the world grows in me
and I wake in the night at the least sound
in fear of what my life and my children’s lives may be,
I go and lie down where the wood drake
rests in his beauty on the water, and the great heron feeds.
I come into the peace of wild things
who do not tax their lives with forethought
of grief. I come into the presence of still water.
And I feel above me the day-blind stars
waiting with their light. For a time
I rest in the grace of the world, and am free.

"The only journey is the one within"
"I hold this to be the highest task of a bond between two people: that each should stand guard over the solitude of the other"

December
I lie on my bed and stare out through the vertical blinds into the smoky white sky, and try to hold onto a single thought.
Nothing comes.
Everything is static and I can't find the answer that I need.
It's like I'm standing at the edge of a long tunnel, calling out into the dark and the only thing I hear is the echo of my own voice trailing off into the blackness.
